Ben Watford, founding President of the James City Historical Society discusses the James City Crockett-Miller Slave Quarters with Nelson McDaniel.

This historic building was built in 1840. It is the oldest surviving slave quarters in North Carolina and was restored in 2013. Peg construction was used in the restoration to remain true to the original building's construction. Inside holds exhibits of tools, bedding and valued pictures of the period are on display. On-site is an historic cemetery with unmarked graves of slaves. The cemetery is now marked by a single memorial gravestone. This interview produced by JT Rogers for the CIty of New Bern's series "The New Bernian".
